Cal-Tropic Producers was founded in 1979 by Dale and Marion New.  Dale’s advanced degree in agricultural science and experience in ag-related support services combined with Marion's expertise in finance and accounting gained from her work in the wine industry proved to be the ideal foundation for a marketing company dedicated to achieving success for both its producers and customers.  Following a period of years working with fresh produce, the company in 1985 shifted its focus to dried fruits, seeds and nuts, where it has been an innovator ever since.  For example, Cal-Tropic Producers:

•      Was the first company to market California dates in clamshell plastic containers.
  

     

•     Was the first marketer to promote “crown-pack” California dried figs as competition for imported Greek and Turkish figs.
  

     

•     Successfully brought dried fruit gift packs back to prominence as valued holiday items among southern California retailers.

     

•     Was the first company to develop, market and distribute school foodservice dried fruit mixes compliant with the nutritional requirements of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.     

How was Cal-Tropic Producers able to accomplish all this? First, by cooperating with capable producers, building on their strengths, yet acknowledging their limitations.
